ANITA WARD: “Ring My Bell” was written by Frederick Knight, who is also a singer, and had a Top 40 hit on the Stax label, here in Memphis, in 1972 with “I’ve Been Lonely for So Long.” I hadn’t gotten in with the Memphis clique.
